What are Cyanotypes?
Cyanotypes is a type of camera-less photography that uses sunlight, chemicals, water and paper to make. It is a cheap way of making images as it only requires a couple of chemicals. They were said to be invented by a woman called Anna Atkins to make images of plants.
Who was Anna Atkins? Anna Atkins was an English botanist and photographer. She was claimed as the first women to create a photograph, She then pursued her interests in botany, for example by collecting dried plants. These were probrerly used as photograms later. The Cyanotype process was used by Anna Atkins in her 12 part book British Algae: Cyanotype impressions. This was the first book to be illustrated with photographs. Cyanotypes were the first kind of photographs that did not need a camera. |

Contemporary cyanotypesThese are some more modern cyanotypes, they were made recently.
I really like the cyanotype of the tulips because it actually looks like photograph of them, there really accurate and they look really relistic., like there the actual thing not just a form of making a really accurate image of something .It looks like its been taken with a camera . I also like the image of the of the the unusual shapes, its different to other cyanotypes and its a really good picture and the way the person has layed the pieces out is really nice. in some of the pieces theres smaller pieces inside or underneath. |

Image 1
This image went wrong, there wern't many spaces between each object, it was underexposed it needed more sunlight. If we left it for longer it wold of been quite a good image and more accurate/clearer. You cant really see what the objects. |
image 2
I like the image because theres spaces between the objects, another thing i like is the image is really clear and i can tell what the objects are , one thing i dislike is that the objects are abit to smudged but it looks individual. |
